6 Tips To Staying Cool Playing Or Watching Youth Sports This Summer

During warmer months, the sun streams down heat mercilessly and those who spend hours watching or playing sports outdoors tend to be affected more than the rest. Whether your son or daughter is a soccer player on the field for long hours out in the sun, a baseball or softball player with a weekend long tournament, or any other sport that has everyone sitting in the sun, there are things you can do to keep yourself and your athlete cool on those days when the sun seems to have descended lower to the earth, and all you can think about is a cold pool or air-conditioning!

Try and keep cool during hot summer days by adopting these proven top 6 tips:

1.  Stay Hydrated!

The importance of drinking water is very important to stay hydrated.  General guidelines are to drink water 2-3 hours before a game, during a game and also after a game.  Water is the best source for hydration but sport drinks are good too if they don’t have a lot of sugar.  Coconut water is a good alternative with as much potassium as a banana.  If you child doesn’t like to drink a lot of water and you don’t want to give them a lot of sugar, try a fruit infused water bottle and create your own naturally flavored water drink.  It is especially helpful for those who want a little more flavor than plain water!

A great fruit infused water bottle that you can use to make your own naturally flavored drink is the Define Bottle Sports Flip Top. It’s a great water bottle designed for the sports enthusiasts, and it comes with all the features for increased portability.

2.   Use A Personal Water Mister

Personal misters are a must to cool you and your athlete down on hot days. Using ice cold water in the mister feels even better when you want to cool down. The cooling mist from the bottle can drop your warm surroundings temperature 10-30 degrees. The most effective way to cool down is to spraying water on the back of your neck!

One of the best personal water misters is the full-sized 1.5 Liter COREGEAR | USA Misters™ Personal Mister & Sprayer .  It will keep you cool all day long, even in the hottest weather. It has a wide next to easily fill with ice and water and the spray adjusts from a fine, cooling mist to a water gun-like stream.  Check it out on CoreGearusa.com.

3. Portable Air Conditioner

On those really hot and muggy days where you are wanting an air conditioner at almost any cost, Check out Icybreeze!  You can take it anywhere and it is the perfect way to beat the hear with a constant breeze of cold air up to 25 miles and hour at a temperature up to 35 degrees below the outside temperature.  The two-in-one IcyBreeze utilizes cold water in the bottom of the tub to serve as a cooling agent. 4. Frozen Cloths and Towels

Wet small towels or clothes and place them into the freezer.  If you are going to hand them out to multiple people you can place them in individual baggies before freezing.  Placing the towels on your neck and  wrist are the quickest way to cool because they contain pulse points --areas where you can feel your pulse-- because your blood vessels are close to the surface of your skin.  The forehead is commonly used as a cooling spot but you will actually cool off quicker placing the cloth closer to your temple and the area just in front of your ear where there is another pulse point.

5.  Cold Fruits and Veggies

Fruits and veggies are a great refreshing summer snack.  Fruits with high water content, like watermelon, also helps to stay hydrated. Pick up a big bag from the store and you've got the perfect treat with the potential to cool you down.  Try making fruit cubes before the game.  Cut up pieces of fruit and add them to ice-cube trays to add to your drink or to just eat.  Not only do they add some fruit flavor to your drink, they are really adorable.

6. For After The Game:  Water Balloons!

At the end of a long day at the field, what is more fun than  water balloons!  Now, there are so many ways to make filling water balloons a quick and easy task.  Try Zorbz http://www.zorbzwaterballoons.com/ Self sealing water balloons, Bunch o Balloons, http://bunchoballoons.com/ which can fill up to 50 at one time, or Kaos Tie-Not Water Balloon Filler which design makes filling and tying water balloons fast, easy and fun!

Staying cool and hydrated as you attend many games and practices throughout the summer is a great way to stay safe and have some extra fun at the field!  Just remember, Fall is right around the corner.
